NSAC Student Team Wins at District

ETSU continues a winning streak in District 7 of the 2023 National Student Advertising Competition. 

The victory this season marks the FOURTH district win (in 6 seasons) over teams from Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, and Tennessee. This year, we competed live against: Tulane (2nd place), LSU (3rd place), Ole Miss, University of Tennessee, University of Alabama, Lee University, and University of Memphis.

ETSU is now in the virtual semi-finals (top 16 out of 120+ competing universities) happening May 4-5 where the team’s recorded presentation and plans book will be judged.  If ETSU advances (as we have 3 years so far) we could be among the top 8 schools in the competition, live in St. Louis. 

Each stage has a new panel of industry creatives, entrepreneurs, media specialists, and client bigwigs.

Since 2013, Professor Jon Hounshell has lead the digital media (DIGM) team in our collaboration with the Media & Communication program and in recent years, colleagues in Graphic Design have bolstered us into a "dream team."  Not only is the team cross-disciplinary between departments and colleges, but the Digital Media team is a diverse cross-section of Visualization and Visual Effects with a sprinkling of Animation and Game Design majors.

Though the collaboration mix of departments and advisors has changed back and forth since the beginning nearly 15 years ago, the Digital Media Department has been a mainstay.  The skill-sharpening competition against our bigger and more prominent rivals has taken us from a "David and Goliath" scenario to "Top of the Podium."
