The main hub of the D2L course, this page contains course modules, readings, links to activities, and other instructor-created and -curated information. | |
Course Copy |
Ensures consistency across departments and semesters in the content and delivery of courses. Past courses can be imported and edited by current instructors. | |
Course Offering Information |
Manages the availability of the course for students. Instructors may open courses early or extend the closing date to meet student needs. | |
Discussions |
The most commonly used form of peer interaction within an online course, discussions give students a space to ask questions, consider concepts, and converse with their instructor and classmates. | |
Dropbox |
Provides a space for students to submit assignments within the LMS. The Dropbox can be used for written responses or file uploads, and allows for a variety of assignment types. | |
Grades |
Allows students to monitor their course progress and instructors to provide detailed feedback on assignments, quizzes, and discussions. | |
Groups |
Organizes students into multiple learning groups at the instructor's discretion. Students can work collaboratively in discussions and on assignments and access channels of communication. | |
Intelligent Agents |
Automates communication between instructor and students. Intelligent agents can be set to contact students who are missing assignments or have not logged in, and can establish a first line of intervention if students are struggling academically. | |

The News tool gives instructors a space to provide updates to students and is the
first thing visible on the course homepage. It may be used for announcements or reminders,
relevant information or upcoming events, changes to deadlines or scheduling, and more. |

ETSU's integrated video storage and editing platform. Panopto is where all Zoom recordings
are stored and can be used by instructors and students to record, edit, and share
videos within a course. |

Quick Eval |
A bulk evaluation tool that shows instructors all ungraded assignments and allows for expedited grading. Quick Eval is designed to prevent skipping over submissions and centralize the assessment process. | |
Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor |
LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within D2L to secure online exams in classrooms or proctored environments. LockDown Monitor is an extension of LockDown Browser that uses a student's webcam to record the student while taking the exam and allow the instructor to review the recordings. | |
Rubrics |
D2L's integrated rubric tool provides a template for instructors to set the criteria on which students will be graded and the weight of different categories. It can be directly integrated into an assignment to provide feedback in the form of individual scores and comments. | |
Surveys |
Ungraded quizzes that are used to gather data about student opinions, preferences,
and attitudes. Surveys give students a voice in the course and can be anonymized. |

Zoom |
Online videoconferencing software that allows instructors to hold synchronous meetings with individual students or a large group. Synchronous meetings provide instructor contact and peer interaction in place of in-person meetings. |
