Reference Support
Onsite reference service is available from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. Questions sent through the Ask-A-Librarian form will be responded to during these hours. Reference staff provide assistance with:
- finding quick factual information
- finding books, journals and audiovisual materials
- developing a strategy for finding information
- using software and databases
- accessing the services, materials and resources within the library
- finding detailed subject information
After Hours Assistance
During evenings and weekends, limited support is provided by the Circulation staff.
Expert Search Service
Reference librarians can search through medical databases for articles and books on many topics. Librarians are trained on the specific search requirements of each system as well as how to analyze complicated search questions to find the best results.
Expert search services are available for free to ETSU personnel in support of our education, clinic, and research missions.
We also offer expert search services to external clients at a rate of $60/hour (plus Document Delivery fees). This charge reflects the value of the professional medical librarian time and expertise invested in delivering high-quality results, and is comparable to rates at other medical libraries. Those representing non-profit educational/healthcare organizations who would like to request consideration in special cases should contact the Library Director.
