Students who have completed and transferred a General Education course at a previous institution may wish to submit a General Education Transfer Course Review Request. Upon submission of this request, the General Education Review Committee will determine if transfer credit satisfies ETSU’s Compass Core/General Education requirements. Below are guidelines to help you make an effective request.
Before Submitting a Request
- Review the Degree Works Audit
- Log into GoldLink and check how the transfer courses have been initially applied.
- GoldLink > Select Degree Works > Review Each Requirement Block (Degree Works Tutorial)
- Ensure that you are requesting reviews for courses which have been completed, evaluated by ETSU Undergraduate Admissions, and are appearing on your DegreeWorks worksheet.
- A course which is falling into the Free Electives or Electives Applied blocks, but that satisfied a general education requirement at your previous institution may be eligible for General Education/Compass Core credit at ETSU.
- Log into GoldLink and check how the transfer courses have been initially applied.
- Things to Know
- Review ETSU’s Transfer Course Equivalencies and your student-specific Transfer Equivalency to determine what General Education/Compass Core credits are already being applied.
- If you are requesting a review for CSCI 1100 (Using Information Technology), email the course syllabus to uit@etsu.edu.
- If your concern is related to American History requirements, ensure that you have provided proof of:
- One year of high school American History (via transcript sent to ETSU Admissions), OR
- Completion of HIST 2010, 2020, or 2030 (6 credits total).
- *Tennessee Law (TCA 49-7-110) requires students to submit proof of one unit (one year) of American History completed in high school or earn 6 credits of American History prior to the awarding of a bachelor's degree from any Tennessee public institution of higher education.
- A student who transfers to ETSU with an associate degree, earned from an institution accredited by an approved agency, meets the ETSU General Education requirements. Review the ETSU General Education Policy for more information.
- Decisions made by the General Education Review Committee apply only to Compass Core/General Education requirements.
- Consult Your Academic Advisor
- Determine if a General Education Transfer Course Review Request may be beneficial to evaluate your transfer coursework, ETSU equivalencies, your degree plan and progress toward your degree.
