Jamie Buxton is a music theatre actor, writer, director, and educator. She holds a BM in Music Theatre from the University of Central Oklahoma, where she studied contemporary singing with Tamara Long (Dames at Sea) and classical singing with New York City Opera’s Kay Creed. She holds an MFA in Musical Theatre Writing from New York University.
As an actor, Buxton’s credits include NATIONAL/INTERNATIONAL TOURS: A Chorus Line (Val), The Mikado, Hair (Jeanie u/s), Click Clack Moo (Darlene), and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular (Singer/Dancer, u/s Mrs. Claus); OFF-BROADWAY/NYC: The Pirates of Penzance, Iolanthe (Fleta, New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players), Rainbow Around the Sun (Debbie, NYMF), Midsummer Night’s Dream (Hermia), King Lear (Cordelia), Alec Baldwin: A Musical Tribute (Roundabout Theatre Company); REGIONAL: Me and My Girl (Sally Smith, Reagle Music Theatre), 42nd Street (Peggy Sawyer, West Virginia Public Theatre), Hairspray (Brenda, North Shore Music Theatre), Some Enchanted Evening (Nellie, Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma), South Pacific: In Concert (Nellie, Antonia Arts); FILM: Rainbow Around the Sun (Debbie, SXSW); and SEA: Disney Cruise Line (Cruella DeVil). Buxton is a contributing author to the musical theatre textbook Fifty Key Stage Musicals (Routledge Press), having penned the chapter on the musical Jersey Boys.
Buxton’s directing credits include The Drowsy Chaperone, Sunday in the Park with George, The Pirates of Penzance, A Grand Night for Singing, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Jake’s Women, The Fantasticks, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and Clue. She has served as choreographer or music director for productions of Hello, Dolly!, Barnum, A Chorus Line, Anything Goes, The Boyfriend, Peter Pan, High School Musical, Seussical, The Pajama Game, Footloose, Bye Bye Birdie, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Shrek, The Drowsy Chaperone, and (Un)Sung. Buxton has taught voice, dance, and musical theatre performance at Milligan University, The Studio Performing Arts (New Canaan, CT), N.Y. Broadway Training Programs (Novato, CA), and the Professional Conservatory of Musical Theatre at New York Film Academy (NYC).
A member of Actors’ Equity Association, SAG-AFTRA, the National Association for Teachers of Singing (NATS), Maestra, and the Dramatists Guild, she holds a Certificate of Distinction from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee Vocal Pedagogy Professional Workshop and has been a featured soloist with the Milligan Orchestra and the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra.
