Louisa Peng (Liang-Yi Peng), originally from Taipei, Taiwan, is an active collaborative pianist and educator. She joined East Tennessee State University as an Adjunct Faculty and Collaborative Pianist in 2024.
Mrs. Peng served as a staff pianist at the Atlantic Music Festival and the Castleman Quartet Program where she worked closely with instrumental students and performed with the faculty members. She was a ballet pianist for the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, working alongside esteemed instructors, including Christian Claessens, Glenda Lucena, Sarah Wroth, Rebecca Janes, and Robin Allens. In Illinois, Mrs. Peng performed with the Midwest Institute of Opera and numerous schools and community theater companies. Her performance includes productions of La bohème, Die Fledermaus, The Light in the Piazza, A Masked Ball, Guys and Dolls, Beauty and the Beast, Mamma Mia!, and How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying.
As a sought-after educator, Mrs. Peng has long-standing experience in teaching college-level group piano classes, teaching for music retail companies, and operating her own private piano studio. She served as the engagement representative for the MTNA Collegiate Chapter at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. In 2024, she presented with her colleagues at the MTNA Collegiate Symposium in Ann Arbor, Michigan, addressing the topic of “Inclusive Piano Instruction: Teaching Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.” During her tenure, the MTNA Collegiate Chapter received accolades; winning the 2022 - 2023 Student Organization of the Year at Indiana University, and receiving the 2023 - 2024 MTNA Collegiate Chapter of the Year at the MTNA National Conference in Atlanta, GA. Mrs. Peng was teacher of record for group piano classes at Illinois State University and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. In Louisiana, she worked closely with Susanna Garcia and Chan Kiat Lim, co-authors of the eNovative multimedia online piano curriculum. Additionally, she was invited to serve as an adjudicator for the Louisiana Federation of Music Club.
Mrs. Peng earned a Performer Diploma in Collaborative Piano from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she studied with Aram Arakelyan, Kimberly Carballo, Chih-Yi Chen, and Charles Prestinari. She earned a Master of Music degree in Collaborative Piano (summa cum laude) from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette under the tutelage of Yuling Huang-Davie, and won top prizes in the Concerto Competition and Hanley Piano Competitions in two consecutive years. She earned a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from Illinois State University where she studied with Geoffrey Duce, and a Bachelor in Music in Piano Performance from the University of Taipei where she studied with Eric Chen.
