Mareena Rodríguez is an accomplished soprano and dedicated educator with 20 years of performance experience spanning musical theatre, opera, operetta, choral music, art song, folk song, and contemporary genres. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, she brings a deep appreciation for multicultural languages and traditions to her teaching and performance style.
As a professor and active performer, Professor Rodríguez is passionate about equipping her students not only with technical skill, but also with the tools to thrive independently in today’s evolving music landscape. She emphasizes evidence-based vocal pedagogy tailored to the individual, grounded in the belief that every voice is a uniquely designed instrument deserving of cultivation, care, and confidence.
Rodríguez is committed to teaching beyond the studio, instilling in her students the knowledge, discipline, and independence to maintain healthy vocal technique and long-term sustainability in their careers.
She holds a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from Lee University, where she studied under James Frost, former member of the Stadttheater Hildesheim ensemble in Germany. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Musical Theatre, having trained with Dr. Carrie Klofach. In addition to her academic work, Rodríguez works as a traveling musician with the Church of God, performing across Tennessee, Oklahoma, and in remote Peruvian villages.
Rodríguez has performed notable roles including Gypsy in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Eve/Mama in Children of Eden, Sally Brown in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Mabel in Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance, Dame 1/Spirit 2 in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Blue Fairy/Olympia the Mechanical Girl Doll in Pinocchio the Opera words and story adaptation by John Davies and scene work such as Susannah from Susannah, Penny from Hairspray, Sister Margaretta from The Sound of Music, and Agathe from Der Freischütz.
Outside the classroom and stage, she devotes her time to rescuing animals and giving back through volunteer work in her local community.
