"Before taking my first class within the ETSU Political Science Department, I was
unsure of my future in political science. Through taking a variety of courses and
in my interactions with professors, I became encouraged and excited about pursuing
political science. The faculty in the Department are prepared to assist students inside
and outside of the classroom. Not only did I receive excellent instruction in each
of my courses, I was also met with advice and encouragement from my professors. Because
of the faculty in this department, I decided to pursue a PhD in political science
and am excited about what my future holds" -
Seth Manning, Undergraduate Alumni
“My experience as a Political Science student at ETSU was built around the extent
of individual care, flexibility, and diversity of experience that faculty brought
to the table. Throughout my program, professors were always willing to go the extra
mile whether that was providing honors curriculum, advising thesis work, or helping
navigate career options. I could not have asked for more than the lifelong friendships
made here and the exceptionally rewarding academic experience I received.”-
David Crabtree, Undergraduate Alumni
"I have always felt that my professors in political science and international affairs
have gone beyond the calling of the classroom to support me in my short-term and long-term
academic goals. Whether it is a simple recommendation letter, discussing future career
opportunities, or offering independent studies for advanced learning in special topics,
political science faculty at ETSU have helped me grow as both an academic and a person.
I would encourage any undecided students who have a heart for service, a passion for
policy, or even a general curiosity about power to consider majoring in political
science or international affairs."-
Mark A. Fulks, Undergraduate Alumni
Favorite memory: "All political science majors from the time, recall Dr. Joe Corso
and Dr. Sam McKinstry fondly. Dr. Corso's classes were always entertaining and educational. Once, mid semester, a young man walked to the classroom door, carrying a minnow bucket
and two fishing poles. He asked Dr. Corso, "What're you talking about today Joe," and upon learning that
the subject was Plato's Republic, he joined the class for the day. Dr. McKinstry was the first professor to inspire me to pursue a legal education. To get our attention and emphasize a critical point of constitutional law, he would
jump up on the wobbly-legged table at the front of the classroom and raise his arms
in the air as if he were signaling a touchdown. It was ETSU's version of shock and awe." Read more of Dr. Fulk's interview with Alumni.-

Favorite memory: "My favorite campus memory is touring the university in the fall
of 2013. Dr. Noland approached my family near the Amphitheatre and offered to take photos of
us. It was such a small gesture but truly showed the welcoming nature of every faculty
member at ETSU." Read more of Meredith Wallen's interview with Alumni.
