Alison is a graduate of East Tennessee State University (B.S., Ph.D.) and of Appalachian State University (M.A.), and she has spent time working in counseling centers on both campuses. Professional interests include eating concerns and body image, self-compassion, identity development, and supervision and training of graduate students. Her approach to therapy emphasizes the power of re-writing narratives (stories we tell ourselves/others), increasing alignment with one’s values, and embodying one’s true self. Sarcasm, compassionate challenges, and vulnerable authenticity are regular occurrences in the therapy room. In her personal time, she enjoys spending time with loved ones, hiking, and listening to music.
