fees, or essential materials, this page connects you to opportunities designed to
help Quillen medical students succeed in their scholarly pursuits.
Medical students are encouraged to engage in meaningful research supported by strong mentorship and institutional resources. With opportunities across basic, clinical, translational, and community-based sciences, students gain valuable experience that enhances their education, builds critical skills, and strengthens residency applications. Quillen’s supportive environment makes research accessible, rewarding, and an essential part of becoming an evidence-based, future-ready physician.
Medical Student Health Sciences Research Symposium
Open to rising second-year medical students at ETSU’s Quillen College of Medicine,
this competitive six-week summer program offers hands-on experience in basic science
or clinical research. Selected students receive a $3,000 stipend. Funding is provided
by the Dean’s Office, Clinical Departments, and the Department of Biomedical Sciences.

Statistical Support
Dr. White-Archer provides overall research and biostatistical support to medical trainees
(Medical Students, Residents, and Fellows) across Quillen. She has a DrPH and MPH
in Epidemiology and specializes in REDCap programming, data management, and statistical
analysis in SAS. If you are a medical trainee interested in research or needing support

Present Your Research
ALL abstracts and posters to be presented outside the university must be submitted for review!
Step 1: Submit your Abstract
This is the form needed for approval to submit your abstract. Please complete all
required sections of the form, attach a copy of your abstract, and click "submit"
when you are finished. The form will be routed through the designated chain-of-command.
All students MUST submit an abstract for approval prior to submitting their research outside of the university. Apply by clicking HERE
Step 2: Submit your Poster
After the above abstract is accepted to the symposium/conference/meeting, this is the form needed for approval to submit your poster so it can be printed by BMC Creative. Please complete all required sections of the form, attach a copy of your poster, and click "submit" when you are finished. The form will be routed through the designated chain-of-command.

If you want to submit your work for publication, please complete this form prior to submitting to a journal. Note: The costs for publications that were not submitted for review prior to journal submission will NOT be reimbursed. Submit your publication Here
Funding Resources
QCOM students might qualify for a variety of funding to assist in paying for educational and research opportunities during their education. All students have access to specific amounts of funding that is available via the Student Affairs office. Official approval to travel must be obtained prior to requesting funding. In addition to these sources, QCOM provides additional gap funding for students who have exhausted all other sources of funding and who are completing university-approved, research-related activities or university-approved, international medical missions.
Gap Funding
The purpose of this funding is to provide QCOM students with the opportunity to request additional funds to foster research innovation and opportunities and promote global health experiences.

Funds may be allocated for the following purposes:
Travel
Costs associated with presenting research at conferences or workshops, or approved international travel, including transportation, lodging, and registration fees.
Poster Preparation
Expenses for designing, printing, and producing research posters for presentations, as managed by ETSU BMC Creative.
Publications
Fees related to submitting and publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals or other academic outlets.
Project Supplies
Costs for materials, supplies, or equipment necessary to conduct research projects (e.g., lab supplies, lab assays, software, or small-scale instrumentation).
Projects involving human subjects must receive IRB approval prior to beginning research!
